The 2020 Ford Escape is a best-selling compact SUV that has become one of the top vehicles in its class since its debut on the mainstream auto market in late 2019. In fact, it has become known as one of the most versatile vehicles on the market.

This fourth-generation Escape model is both powerful and efficient, which are two qualities that are major deciding factors for many drivers who are trying to choose between different SUV models on the mainstream auto market.

This versatile compact SUV is also ultra-customizable. It is available in five different trim levels—S, SE, SE Sport, SEL, and Platinum—with four powertrain options—including an especially fuel-efficient hybrid powertrain. It also includes many built-in advanced safety features and was even named as a Top Safety Pick for 2020 by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

The 2020 Escape also comes with a host of special features that helps make this SUV fun to drive and ride in as well as capable, practical and reliable. Its cabin is comfortable and spacious. Its tech features include a 12.3-inch digital cluster display and a state-of-the-art infotainment system with ultra-responsive smartphone pairing capabilities. Other special features of the 2020 Escape include a premium 10-speaker sound system, an available panoramic sunroof, and much more.

SUVs are the current trendiest class of vehicles, and significant competition exists between models within all of the sub-classes of SUVs as well—including compact SUVs—which means that the top-ranking performance of the 2020 Ford Escape is especially impressive considering the competition it faces.

Escape Ranked at the Top in the J.D. Power 2020 APEAL Study

The 2020 Ford Escape ranked at the top in the results of the well-known and prestigious J.D. Power 2020 APEAL Study. The APEAL—which stands for Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout—Study is an intriguing study that attempts to determine which factors most influence drivers’ emotional attachment to their vehicle and how that attachment influences their satisfaction with their vehicle and their willingness to overlook its flaws.

The 2020 J.D. Power APEAL Study is an annual study that has been run every year for the past 25 years but was redesigned for 2020. For 2020, this study measured drivers’ levels of emotional attachment to and excitement about their vehicle. It measured drivers’ satisfaction with their vehicle based on 37 different factors across 10 different situations in order to determine how emotionally attached drivers are to their vehicles and how that emotional attachment is related to whether or not their vehicle has lived up to their expectations for style, comfort, storage space, tech features, etc. The 37 factors that are measured in this study include everything from how comfortable drivers feel that their vehicle is to the emotions they feel when they accelerate in their vehicle on the road.

The 2020 Ford Escape ranked highest among all Ford vehicles in the results of the 2020 APEAL Study. Among all compact SUVs within its vehicle class, the 2020 Ford Escape also performed extremely well. It ended up tied with the 2020 Mazda CX-5 as the top-ranking compact SUV on the mainstream auto market for the 2020 model year.

Results from the 2020 APEAL Study also showed that Ford, in general, ranked fourth overall among all major mass-market automakers. Its score increased considerably from what it was in 2019 and landed at 853 out of 1,000—which is especially impressive considering that the average score among top-ranking mass-market automakers is 838.

Considering the versatility, capability, and fun-to-drive qualities of the 2020 Ford Escape, there is no question why this compact SUV ranked so highly in the results of the annual J.D. Power APEAL Study for 2020.

If you’re in the market for a compact SUV, don’t cross the next-generation 2020 Escape off your list—especially considering that 2020 models of this compact SUV are likely to become more affordable very soon as Ford begins to release brand-new models for the 2021 model year.
